About Us

The Austin Recovery Alumni Association is a fellowship of graduates of Austin Recovery who want to share their experience, strength and hope with one another so that we may solve our common problem and help other alumni recover from their alcoholism and addiction.

Our primary purpose is to help others stay clean, interact in sober activities and stay connected. We understand the struggles each of us face once we get out of treatment and want to support all of our alumni in any way we can. As alumni, we felt we could progress in our own recovery by being of service and helping others with similar struggles. Alumni groups such as ours have proven to be a great addition to the toolkits of those recovering from alcoholism and addiction. It is the sincerest wish of the Austin Recovery Alumni Association participants to give back a little of what was so freely given to us to those new in recovery. We have found that whatever we give back to others who suffer from alcoholism and addiction is returned to us many times over.

The only requirements for membership is enrollment in a program at Austin Recovery. Both in-patient and I.O.P. clients are considered alumni, and the Alumni Association is here to support anyone who has ever come to Austin Recovery, even if they didn’t finish treatment. Once you admit, you are family.

There are no dues or fees for membership in the Austin Recovery Alumni Association.  The association is self-supporting though voluntary contributions of its members and fund-raising activities.  The Austin Recovery Alumni Association may accept administrative and financial help from its members and Austin Recovery.

The Association is not allied with any sect, denomination, party, organization other than Austin Recovery. Although our members endorse and support 12 step groups such as AA, NA, CA, Alanon, CODA and alike, we are not directly affiliated with any of these organizations.

Alumni Groups such as this have been proven to be a great addition to the tool-kits of those recovering from alcoholism and addiction. It is the sincerest desire of the members of the Austin Recovery Alumni Association to be able to give back to those new in recovery a little of what has been so freely given to us. We have found that whatever we give back to others who suffer from alcoholism and addiction is returned to us again many times over.

In the Big Book of Alcoholic Anonymous it states, “We realize we know only a little. God will constantly disclose more to you and to us. Ask him in your morning meditation what you can do each day for the man who is still sick”.  Our humble wish is that this will be so, and that the God of each of our understandings will show each one of us how we can best contribute to recovery from this disease.

It is with this understanding that the Austin Recovery Alumni Association was organized. To all graduates of Austin Recovery, we would like to continue that quote from the Big Book of AA.  “Give freely of what you find and join us. We shall be with you in the fellowship of the Spirit, and you will surely meet some of us as you trudge the Road of Happy Destiny”
